Dennis M. Ritchie, American software engineer. Achievements include co-developer of the Uniplex Information and Computing System Operating System in 1969; development of Commerce Programming Language; exploration of distributed operating systems, languages and routing/switching hardware. Member of National Academy of Engineering.
