Technology librarian, 1903-1908, librarian, 1908-1917, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Director, 1917-1945; consulting librarian, Engineering Societies Library, New York City, since 1946.

Member of Pennsylvania Free Library Commission, 1909-1917, American Library Association (councilor, 1909-1917, and since 1924. Executive Board, 1913-1917. Chairman of the Board of education, 1928-1931. President 1937-1938), Newcomen Society, History of Science Society. Fellow American Association for the Advancement of Science, New York Library Club (president 1921-1922). President Keystone State library association, 1908-1909.
